Static vs Dynamic QR Codes: Why a Link Isn't Enough

QR codes are everywhere: menus, business cards, billboards. But for product security and authenticity checks, the standard QR codes you know (static QR) fall short.

We often hear: "I already have a website. Can't we just print a QR code that goes there?"

Our answer is clear: "No, because that code can be copied."

Here are the technical reasons why you need a smart label system (dynamic, unique QR codes) to fight counterfeits.

A static QR code that is the same for everyone compared with dynamic QR codes that each differ

What Is a Static QR Code, and Why Isn't It Secure?

A static QR code contains fixed information (e.g. www.yourbrand.com). Print 10,000 products and all 10,000 codes are IDENTICAL.

The weakness: a counterfeiter buys your product, copies the QR code and sticks it on fakes. When a customer scans the fake, they still land on your website and think it's genuine. A static code doesn't stop imitation.

What Is a Dynamic (Unique) QR Code?

With our encrypted QR system it's completely different. Print 10,000 labels and you get 10,000 DIFFERENT QR codes:

  • Label 1: AB-123 (registered in the database)
  • Label 2: CD-456 (registered in the database)
  • Label 3: EF-789 (registered in the database)

Each code belongs to one product, like a fingerprint. It doesn't just open a link; it asks the database "who am I?" in the background.

What Happens If It's Copied?

Situation Static QR (old way) Dynamic unique QR (our system)
Code structure All the same All different
When copied Nobody notices. The counterfeiter copies one code.
When customers scan They reach your site and feel safe. After the limit, a "THIS CODE HAS BEEN COPIED" warning appears.

Live Checks and the Power of Data

Dynamic QR codes are "alive". The moment a customer scans, the system:

  1. checks whether the code is on our list (yes/no),
  2. checks whether it has been scanned before (how many times),
  3. confirms "original" if the limit hasn't been exceeded.

This happens in seconds. A static QR code has no such brain; it's just a signpost. See the maximum 3 checks rule.

Conclusion: Security Comes From Uniqueness

Think of your house key. If everyone in your building had the same key (static), would you feel safe? No. Everyone needs a different key (dynamic/unique).
