What is a Coated Sheet Label?

Otiket Coated Sheet Label goes beyond standard paper labels with a surface smoothed and finished by a special coating. Unlike matte, uncoated labels, its semi-gloss finish reflects light, so colors look much more vibrant and text and images look sharper.

Material and Technical Specifications

  • Surface: coated, so ink and toner sit on the surface without smearing.
  • Appearance: glossy / semi-gloss.
  • Material: paper based (can be torn by hand).
  • Adhesive: strong acrylic adhesive for cardboard, glass, plastic and metal.
  • Printing: compatible with laser, offset and screen printing.

Why Choose Coated Labels?

  • Vibrant colors: logos and graphics look bright and eye-catching rather than dull.
  • Versatile: a clean, standard label for packaging, boxes and files.
  • Smooth: no paper dust on the surface, for a cleaner, crisper print.

Otiket Expert Tip: Making Coated Labels Last

Coated sheet labels have a smooth, slightly glossy surface that looks premium, but as paper they are sensitive to strong sunlight (UV) and moisture.

  • Common mistake: using standard coated labels in sunny shop windows or humid bathrooms and kitchens leads to yellowing in the sun and the paper breaking down with moisture.

  • Expert solution: add lamination to your order through our Pro Label section to shield the label against heat and moisture.

What is lamination? A clear polypropylene film bonded to the printed label with heat. This thin but strong layer wraps the paper like armor and isolates it from the outside world.

Q&A

1. What is the difference between First Class label and Coated label?
The most fundamental difference is the surface texture. First Class (like photocopy paper) is matte and rough, with high absorbency. Coated labels, on the other hand, have a coated, smooth, and semi-glossy surface. Print colors on coated labels are much more vibrant and clear.
Is this material (Coated) waterproof?
Coated labels are paper-based. Thanks to the glossy coating on their surface, they are more resistant to wiping with a lightly damp cloth than standard papers, but by nature, they are not waterproof. For full water resistance, plastic-based (PP) products are required.
Which printers give the best results?
Due to their surface structure, Coated sheet products give excellent results with Laser (Toner) printers and professional Offset machines. Toner is heat-fixed to the glossy surface and does not peel off.
Can I write on it with a ballpoint pen?
Because the surface is glossy and slippery, it cannot be written on with a pencil. It can be written on with a ballpoint pen or a CD marker (overhead projector pen), but it may be necessary to wait a short time for the ink to dry.
