When you start looking at product security, two terms come up again and again: destructible (security) labels and VOID labels. Both are called "warranty labels" or "security seals", but they work and are used in completely different ways.
When customers ask "Which label should I use?", my answer is always: "What's the surface, and what's your goal?"
Here we compare the two so you can make the right call between destructible and VOID labels.

1. VOID Labels: The Detective That Leaves a Trace
VOID labels are the most popular packaging security option. Their key feature is leaving a mark on the surface.
On a box, carton or glossy product, if someone tries to lift the label, it self-destructs but doesn't fall apart completely. Instead, a special layer stays on the surface and reveals "VOID". On cardboard packaging and smooth surfaces, a VOID security label shows at a glance that the box has been opened.
2. Destructible (Security) Labels: Shatter Like a Shell
Destructible labels (also called eggshell labels) are as fragile as an eggshell. Their job isn't to leave a mark but to break apart.
Shortly after application they bond so strongly that removing them in one piece is impossible; they break into tiny fragments like dried paint. They're often used on electronic screw holes, computer parts (RAM, drives) and in service-center warranty tracking.

Comparison: Which for Which Surface?
| Feature | VOID label | Destructible label |
|---|---|---|
| When removed | Leaves text/pattern on the surface. | Breaks into tiny pieces. |
| Best for | Cardboard boxes, product packaging, door seals. | Electronic screws, device cases, warranty tracking. |
| Structure | Polyester based, flexible and durable. | Vinyl based, very brittle. |
Conclusion: Which Should You Choose?
Ask yourself: "Do I want to know if the box was opened, or stop a screw being undone?"
- For cosmetics, spare parts boxes or parcels, choose VOID labels.
- For service centers or to stop devices being opened (on screws), choose destructible labels.
