Especially on dark-colored or glass bottles, these bubbles can appear as white spots noticeable even from a distance. So, what should you pay attention to for a professional result when applying transparent roll labels?
As a printer, I've witnessed the process of applying thousands of labels. Here are golden techniques for a bubble-free application.
1. Cleanliness is Key: Dust is the Father of Bubbles
The biggest cause of air bubbles is actually not air, but "Dust." A microscopic dust particle trapped under the label creates an air pocket around it, forming a bubble.
- Before application, always wipe your bottle or jar with a microfiber cloth or an alcohol wipe.
- Ensure the surface is completely dry and oil-free.
2. Manual Application Technique (Spatula Method)
If you have a low-volume production and are applying labels by hand, follow these steps:
- Do not remove the entire label from the backing paper (roll). Just peel off the starting edge.
- Align the edge of the label with the bottle and stick it down.
- Using a credit card or a plastic spatula, start from the adhered part and slowly press outwards/downwards.
- As you press with the spatula, slowly pull the backing paper from underneath.
This method prevents air from getting trapped and allows you to push the air out as you go.
3. The Definitive Solution: Labeling Machine
Let's face it, human hands can make mistakes. But machines don't. If your production is increasing, using a manual or semi-automatic labeling machine will solve the bubble problem by 99%.
Machines wrap the label around the bottle with consistent pressure and tension. This prevents air from getting trapped. Our transparent roll labels are wound to be fully compatible with all labeling machines.
4. How to Remove an Existing Bubble?
If a small bubble remains despite all efforts, don't panic and don't try to peel off the label (PP labels stretch and distort). Here's the surgical intervention:
- Find a very fine needle (preferably a syringe needle).
- Make a small hole not in the exact center of the bubble, but near its edge.
- Use your finger to push the air towards the hole and release it.
With this method, the bubble will disappear, and the needle hole will be too small to be visible, resulting in a flawless appearance.
