Short answer: The most popular label for handmade soap, candles and natural cosmetics is textured paper; its natural, matte surface you can feel strengthens the "handmade" impression. For products that get wet in the bathroom (liquid soap, shampoo) opaque PP is better, and for candles in glass jars, clear labels. For makers starting small, sheet labels are the most economical route.
For someone selling handmade products, the label is the product's signature. On Instagram, at a market or on a boutique shelf, it's often that small, careful label that makes a customer reach out. Here's how to choose labels for soap, candles, cosmetic oils and handmade goods.
Looking for labels for your handmade products?
Sheet labels in textured, opaque PP, clear and coated paper options, available in small quantities.

Choosing a Label by Product
Bar Soap
Bar soap is usually wrapped in paper, a cardboard box or a kraft band, so the label goes on the packaging rather than the soap. Textured paper labels give the most natural, elegant result here. If you sell soap unwrapped and it will sit in a damp place, choose opaque PP.
Suggested shapes: rectangle or oval for box tops, a round seal label to close the wrap.
Candles
Candles in glass jars use a front label and a lid label. For a minimal, elegant look on glass, use clear labels; for a natural boutique feel, textured paper. For the warning label on the base (stay nearby while burning, trim the wick, etc.), economical coated paper labels are enough.
Note: Don't place the label near the flame or the hot rim of the glass.
Cosmetic Oils, Serums and Creams
Dropper bottles and cream jars are handled often and touched with oily hands. Textured paper looks lovely on natural oils, but if the risk of oil is high, opaque PP lasts longer. Put mandatory cosmetic information (ingredients, quantity, producer, lot number, expiry) on a back label. See also cosmetic product labels.
Liquid Soap, Shampoo, Shower Gel
Don't use paper labels on products that are constantly wet in the bathroom. Opaque PP or clear PP are waterproof and tear-resistant.

What Should a Handmade Product Label Include?
- Brand name and logo
- Product name and scent/variety: "Lavender Olive Oil Soap", "Vanilla Soy Candle"
- Net quantity: grams or ml
- Ingredients: Mandatory for cosmetics in particular, and a trust signal for customers.
- Use and warnings: Burn time and safety warnings for candles, directions for cosmetics
- Contact or social media: Your Instagram handle or a QR code is the easiest way to get repeat orders.
If you sell cosmetics, there may be extra legal requirements; check the rules that apply to your product and market.
Design Tips: Strengthen the Handmade Feel
- Natural tones: Cream, beige, earth tones and greens feel natural.
- Drawings and illustrations: Plant, flower and leaf drawings (lavender, chamomile, olive branch) show what's inside.
- Design a series: Use the same frame and typeface across products and change only the drawing and colour. They look like a collection on the table or shelf.
- Oval and round shapes: Feel friendlier and more special than rectangles on boutique products.
- Less text: Only brand, product name and quantity on the front. The rest goes on the back.

Start Small, Grow Over Time
Handmade products are usually made in small batches. That's why sheet labels make the most sense: no plate costs, and you print labels for each product only as you need them. For cost-saving tips, see our small-batch label printing guide.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do soap labels need to be water resistant?
If the label goes on a box or wrap, textured paper is enough. If it goes on the soap itself or on packaging kept in the bathroom, choose opaque PP.
Which labels stick to candle jars?
Clear, opaque PP and textured labels all adhere well to glass. Just wipe the glass with an alcohol wipe first.
Do I need separate labels for each scent?
Yes, but you can combine them in one order. For different designs in the same size and material, contact us.
What's a good label size for handmade products?
Around 50x70 mm for a bar soap box, 30x60 mm to 40x70 mm for a 30-50 ml dropper bottle and about 50x60 mm for a 200 ml candle jar is a good start. Always measure your own packaging.
In Short
Your handmade product's label should be as carefully made as the product. Choose textured paper for a natural look, opaque PP for wet conditions and clear for glass; start small and grow your brand with a consistent series design.
