What sells a product on the shelf: the packaging, or the product itself?
Recent design trends say the product itself. Brands that believe in what's inside are swapping paper labels for clear roll labels, letting customers make eye contact with the product.
From our print shop experience, here's why clear labels signal prestige in cosmetics, drinks and food, and how to get the best results with our printing methods.

1. Cosmetics and Personal Care: A Pure, Clean Look
In cosmetics, minimalism is another word for luxury. Think of clear shampoo bottles, toners or micellar water. Seeing a clear liquid makes customers think "clean".
Design tip (CMYK printing): on a clear bottle, logos in strong colors such as black or dark navy look sharp and modern. Light pastel designs can disappear on clear bottles, so choose dark tones that create contrast.
2. Drinks: A Dance of Colors
Lemonade, detox water, iced tea: if your drink has a great color, why hide it?
- Water resistance: clear labels are polypropylene (plastic). Condensation on a cold bottle from the fridge won't damage or lift them.
- Visual harmony: the label blends into the bottle, as if printed directly on it.
3. Food and Jars: Transparency Builds Trust
Jam, honey, pickles, sauces: shoppers want to see texture, pieces and color. A clear label is the best way to show freshness. For small jar runs, clear sheet labels applied by hand are the most practical option. See also our jar label guide.
Important: if your product is dark (black olive paste or dark molasses, say), black print on a clear label may not be readable. For dark products, clear labels work best on white lids or light-colored packaging.
What Is the "Stained Glass" Effect?
The inks we use are translucent, which gives your design a lovely stained glass feel: light passes through the colors on the label onto your product.
To make the most of it:
- White/light surfaces: on a white plastic bottle, your colors (yellow, red, blue) look as vivid as on paper.
- Clear surfaces: choose dark, bold fonts and logos for readability.

Conclusion: The Right Combination Wins
When clear PP labels meet the right background and design colors, your product becomes the most eye-catching on the shelf. And being waterproof, they protect your brand for the product's whole life.
